BOARD OF DIRECTORS / MEMBERSHIP MEETING MINUTES

GRAND BLANC HUNTSMAN’S CLUB

February 11, 2007…………

Meeting called to order at 5:32 pm by Dale Statson.  Motion to combine meeting by R. Wilcutts, 2nd J. Webster, carried.

 

President: Dale Statson reported that Dennis Hovatter has resigned as treasurer. L. Curtis nominated Kirk Todd for treasurer, 2nd D. Fortier. After a discussion of duties and ways of lightening the load, the motion was carried. Now need a new Vice-President.

 We will pay $75 to have a club flyer in the Grand Blanc Chamber of Commerce quarterly newsletter that will go out to 525 local businesses. A. Fletcher noted that they carried an article on our charity shoot.

RSO:  a meeting is scheduled for March 8 to discuss having our own class. Class to start in April or May.

Arnold Fletcher and Dale Statson represented the club at the Bass Pro shooting sports weekend.

2007 Sponsor signs: 21 sold thus far, with 3 left to sell. Cost $125/year.

D. Fortier moved to have the Senator Cherry’s Hunters Safety class on May 5, 2nd J. Webster, carried.

George Peterman will help us with fund raising/promotions. He has experience with Ducks Unlimited.

NRA Dinner: February 22 - Thursday. We have 2 tables reserved. K. Todd moved to donate $200 in shooting cards to the Ruffed Grouse Society, 2nd D. Fortier, carried.

 

Minutes of  previous meetings; January 2007  meeting  minutes were approved. 

 

Treasurer:  K. Todd reported  starting a new check register account using Quicken. Having some issues accessing our bank savings account on-line. Need to install Quick Books on Kirk's computer to use the reporting system.

 

Membership: T. Santoro provided a report showing 4 new applicants: David Minto (S. Somers), John Walter (D. Statson), William Rabe (D. Statson), and Ronald Mellot (D. Shonts).  Motion to accept new members by D. Fortier, 2nd L. Curtis, carried. Our total membership is 393.

 

Sporting Clays: R. Wilcutts reported that the 2008 State Shoot date and committee meetings to start in March. Lining up loaner traps. Trap repair/Target setting class at DGC: need 2 individuals to participate. We may have a couples Shoot…details to follow from Alicia Wilcutts. Tree cut company doing cleanup to be done by end of month.  Feb. 22nd is next target delivery.

 

Skeet:  Need a chairman. T. Holton and B. Refice will handle 2008 registered shoot setup. Need some volunteers to help fix up the fields, and work with board on possible 5th field.

 

Manager: Hugh Woody  reported that cold weather is affecting  machines, especially skeet field #2. Using heat lamps in houses to help. Having trouble starting the hi-lo.  Jr Travel League here on Feb 10 had 37 shooters and went well. They donated $100 to the club, we supplied shells. Mid-States skeet league has 147 shooters. Backup skeet league going well. Sporting Clays getting good comments. Now changing about 2 stations each week. Only have 5 signed up for the 5-stand league thus far. We are looking into having a women/youth skeet training class on Sunday afternoon, April 22.

 

Old Business:

A. Fletcher is working on having Grand Blanc High shooting class here.

Gator replacement: Getting prices on new equipment and to decide at next meeting. Kirk T. is trying to get used utility poles from Consumers power to build new bridge at pond. D. Fortier reported that cleaning and sealing floors costs $750. To purse having this done.  CONSTITUTION: to have special meeting to review on  April 16.

 

New Business: 

K. Cole and  B. Hinkle will  manage a sub-gage Clays league to start in April. To handicap by bore size.

D. Statson suggested a Member of the Year award. Members to suggest names. 2007 Goals (ideas): Replace Gator, covered pavilion, Lead recovery plan for '09, 5th skeet field, prep for State Shoot, shooter transport trailer, paint skeet houses/fences, develop trap shooting, and add crushed stone to Clays course.

L. Curtis moved to buy a pallet jack at $200, 2nd J. Webster, carried.

K. Todd got 2 environmental stewardship DVD/books and will circulate among board members.
